Shark Squalene - FAQ's
What is Shark Squalene?
Squalene is a naturally occurring oil found in plants and animals. One of the richest sources of Squalene is the liver of deep sea sharks. It is essential for the production of hormones and other molecules. Being a high density lipid (HDL), it is recommended as ‘good cholesterol’ because it is a polyunsaturated fat, and it has many other health giving properties.
For many generations of fisherman and sea-goers Deep Sea Shark Liver has provided both nutrition and healing power. Interestingly, although sharks have a relatively primitive immune system, they demonstrate a powerful resistance to disease. Now, research has revealed the source of the deep sea shark’s remarkable fortitude. It appears to come from the unique combination of oils in the liver. Deep Blue Health Shark Liver Oil is extracted from deep sea sharks which typically inhabit cold, non-polluted waters off New Zealand.
What are the health benefits of Shark Squalene?
Deep Blue Health Shark Squalene is extracted from shark liver oil and offers powerful health-giving properties. The oils are readily absorbed by the body and pass easily into the cells with no known adverse effects.
Deep Blue Health Shark Squalene is a polyunsaturated fat and a strong antioxidant to help maintain energy levels and healthy soft skin; it has powerful immune boosting properties too.
How is Deep Blue Health Shark Squalene better?
New Zealand’s remote position in the world works to our advantage. Livers from sharks caught in tropical waters do not appear to have the same levels of beneficial nutrients. It is the extreme cold, high pressure and generally harsh conditions that force the liver to produce these compounds that allow sharks to thrive in the deep dark depths of the ocean.
In addition, some lesser brands of shark liver oil may be of poor quality, due to inappropriate methods of transport, storage and processing, not to mention inhumane catching practices. On the contrary, Deep Blue Health Shark Liver Oil is extracted under strictly controlled conditions. Minimal oxygen, temperature and light exposure ensure the production of a high quality, stable oil that comes with eco-friendly credentials.
Finally, Deep Blue Health Shark Squalene offers many health benefits and is naturally free from heavy metal contamination.

GENERAL:
What are the capsules made of?
Deep Blue Health capsules are all high quality capsules made from natural products. We use two types of capsule; soft and hard gel.
The soft gel capsules are filled with liquids and are made from animal-based, NZFSA approved gelatine. The gelatine is of the highest quality and is vital to the encapsulation stage.
The hard gel capsules are used for powdered products and may be one of three types; Vegicaps, Oceancaps and gelatine caps. Deep Blue Health provides all three variations because we recognise the benefits of the new product option being developed.
What is encapsulating material and why is it used?
Encapsulating material is a naturally inert material used to keep powders free-flowing to ensure the active ingredients remain evenly dispersed throughout the product. Inert means it does not react with the other ingredients and is not absorbed by the body.
What does extract equivalent mean?
Extract equivalent is the ratio of raw to dried product, for example a 10:1 ratio means that 10g of raw product was used to produce 1g of product.
